CASH Campaign of Maryland - Teaching People to Invest in Themselves and Their Community — 100 Times Over
We shared this story about the CASH Campaign of Maryland in our March newsletter - a reminder that economic justice work is happening every day across our state. CASH is one of the organizations making that possible.
One of the clearest examples of operational clarity in action is the work happening at the CASH Campaign of Maryland. For 25 years, they’ve been promoting economic advancement for people who may not have had the chance– or the support– to build financial capacity or family stability before.
They do that in some really keen and direct ways. CASH provides free tax preparation for households earning under $69,000 a year. They offer free, fact-based financial education classes, along with coaches and planners who walk with people as they make decisions about their money. And, really importantly, they help folks use their tax refunds to invest in themselves, their families, and their communities– opening bank accounts, saving for college, or setting aside funds to start a business. It’s financial support, yes, but it’s also legacy work and community planning across the economic spectrum.
When we partnered with CASH, our work focused on – surprise– their internal operations. Their client‑facing systems were strong and well‑documented, but much of the internal know‑how lived in leaders’ notebooks and minds. Together, we helped them translate that knowledge into clear SOPs– giving their team a shared, centralized way to run the organization from the inside. It was a privilege to support a neighborhood‑rooted organization doing work that reaches so far and so wide.
And somewhere in the middle of this work, we noticed something that made us pause: CASH is the 100th engagement E.TBD has completed. It’s a big moment for us– not because of the number alone, but because of what it reflects. One hundred times, we’ve had the chance to support organizations that are investing in their communities over and over again, just like CASH has done for tens of thousands of Maryland families. Marking this milestone alongside them feels right. Their work is exactly the kind of steady, community‑rooted impact that keeps our ecosystem moving, and getting to support that from the inside out is something we don’t take lightly.
